In a surprising move, Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, has volunteered to testify in a public hearing before the House Oversight Committee. However, Republicans have immediately rejected this offer, showing their lack of interest in hearing what he has to say.

Biden’s attorneys sent a letter to committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) on Tuesday, stating that Biden is willing to testify on December 13, as long as the hearing is made public. The attorneys highlighted Comer’s previous demand for a public investigation, stating that they expect Biden to be given the opportunity to testify before Congress.

The letter also emphasized that an open-door hearing would prevent any selective leaks, manipulated transcripts, doctored exhibits, or biased press statements. But despite this reasoning, the House Republicans refused to accept Biden’s offer. They accused him of trying to play by his own rules and not following the same standards as everyone else.

While the Republicans insist on a closed-door deposition, they also acknowledged that Biden should have the chance to testify in a public setting at a later date. Committee member Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) expressed his satisfaction with Biden’s willingness to cooperate, stating that they look forward to hearing from him in a deposition on December 13 and subsequently in a public hearing.

On the other hand, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), the ranking Democrat on the committee, called out the Republicans for their contradictory stance. He pointed out that after months of complaining about Hunter Biden and sending him a subpoena, they now reject his offer to testify before the full committee and the world. Raskin characterized this as an epic humiliation for his Republican colleagues, showing their lack of interest in the facts and their own case.

This recent development comes in the midst of ongoing investigations into Hunter Biden by three separate congressional committees. Republicans have been trying to find evidence to support their claims of corruption against President Biden. However, these allegations remain unproven.

While the investigations have been ongoing for years, Hunter Biden and his legal team have recently taken a more defensive approach. Biden has filed lawsuits against several entities involved in the Republican efforts to prosecute him, including Rudy Giuliani, the CEO of Overstock.com, and even the IRS, alleging mishandling of his tax records.

Now, Hunter Biden is pushing to testify publicly before the Oversight Committee, hoping to clear his name in front of a national audience. It would seem logical for Republicans to seize this opportunity to question him thoroughly. However, one Republican, Rep. Jason Smith (R-Mo.), welcomed the idea of Hunter Biden testifying and coming clean in front of the American people. Unfortunately, he later deleted this tweet.

It remains to be seen how this situation will unfold and whether Hunter Biden will eventually have the chance to testify publicly. But for now, the House Republicans have made it clear that they are not interested in hearing what he has to say.
