The Unexpected Turn on the Way to My Wedding

Chelsea had meticulously planned her fairy tale wedding with Rasmus, the man she had dreamed of marrying. But on the big day, when no guests showed up, she was forced to uncover who had canceled her wedding and if her fiancé was truly the right match for her.

I always longed for a romantic life, a “happily ever after.” So, when I met Rasmus, I was convinced I had finally realized my dream. However, as our wedding day unfolded, it felt more like a nightmare.

We first met in a quaint bakery, a delightful encounter that made me believe he was the one. We exchanged phone numbers over slices of rye bread.

“I’ll see you later, Chelsea,” he said, holding a piece of artisan bread. Not long after he left, he called to set up a dinner for the same evening.

Fast forward two years, we were waking up on the day of our wedding.

That morning, I got ready early, anticipating my hair and makeup appointments. Sitting on the edge of the hotel bed, I gazed at my wedding gown, filled with excitement.

I couldn’t wait to marry Rasmus. I daydreamed about our new life together.

Throughout the day, my sister Jess, who was my maid of honor, helped me prepare.

“Where’s Mom?” she asked. “Shouldn’t she be with us?”

“No, I arranged for her and Dad to meet us directly at the venue. You know she doesn’t get along well with Rasmus.”

Jess nodded, yet her disturbed expression said more than words could.

“You’d think by now Mom would’ve let that go.”

It was true. My parents cared deeply for me, but they couldn’t embrace Rasmus.

“There’s something odd about him,” Dad used to say. “But we respect your choice to marry him.”

When it was time to leave, Jess called the car from the hotel, and we headed to the wedding site.

“Where is everyone?” Jess asked aloud, echoing my own thoughts.

The place was entirely deserted. No welcoming signs, no drinks, no decorations, no staff, not even Rasmus.

“Call Brenda,” I told her, mentioning our wedding planner.

Suddenly, I began to panic. My special wedding day, the one I had eagerly awaited, seemed to be unraveling.

“Brenda, where is everyone?” I questioned, my voice quivering.

“What do you mean?” she responded calmly.

“I’m at the wedding venue, and there’s nobody here!” I exclaimed.

“Chelsea, sweetheart, the wedding was canceled. We received the request from you three days ago via email.”

My heart sank. How could I have canceled my own wedding?!

I checked my email, and there it was:

“Dear Brenda,Due to unforeseen circumstances, the wedding is canceled. Please inform all guests and vendors.”

But none of it added up. The email had been sent from my corporate account, which only I, my mom, and dad had access to. Could they have done this?

I called them immediately, and their response shocked me even more.

“We’ve been on a flight, dear,” Dad told me. “I had a business meeting, and Mom came along. We had nothing to do with this.”

Jess also admitted she hadn’t seen the email, adding that she’s “terrible at checking messages.”

Then it dawned on me: The only other person with access to my email accounts was Rasmus.

I insisted to be taken home, determined to get to the bottom of this.

When I arrived, I found Rasmus lounging on the couch, eating a bowl of cereal. He was in his casual clothes, a stark contrast to his typically polished appearance.

“Did you cancel our wedding?” I asked him point-blank.

Rasmus didn’t attempt to deny it. He had canceled the wedding because, even though he loved me, he realized he wasn’t ready for marriage.

“I panicked,” he confessed. “I didn’t have the guts to tell you. I thought if you found out, you’d start investigating, and it would only throw me off more.”

As I stood there, with what was supposed to be my wedding day in disarray, I realized my parents had been right. Rasmus was not the right person for me.

Although it was painful, a part of me felt relieved that he did it. Now, as I look at my wedding dress, I only wonder what to do with it…
