In what seemed like an ordinary moment, a wife faced an unexpected revelation. Her husband of 47 years informed her that he wanted a divorce to live a carefree life with a younger brunette.
“Divorce? Are you serious, John? And you want a fair share as well?” Nicky exclaimed, shifting in her chair as her husband revealed how he was “tired” of their dull life and longed for freedom.
John smirked. “Oh, Nicky! You can’t say this is shocking. We both know there’s nothing left between us. I don’t want to spend my life gloomy with you. I want to live freely and find someone – beautiful and intriguing… unlike you! Yes, I want a divorce.”
“And you think I’ll let you walk away so easily? Wishful thinking, John!” Nicky countered sternly. “You want to live freely, huh? Well, guess what? I won’t sign the papers, and you won’t get a dime, let alone a ‘fair share’!”
“You can’t do this, Nicky! If you don’t sign willingly, I’ll have you compelled to do it!”
Nicky laughed. “Oh, poor Johnny! What will you do? Bring your girlfriend home? The young ones you’re seeing won’t clean or cook for you like I have! I took care of you for 47 years! Raised our kids while you lounged on the couch after work, drank beer, and hung out with friends. And you think you’ll get away with it? Never!”
Karma catches up with everyone. “Well”, John paused, checking his watch. “I believe I’m off in an hour to Mexico. Planning to be there for six months. Nearly drained all our savings for this trip from our joint account.
“Let’s see if you struggle on your own or beg me for money. After all, what can a housewife do without money? Good luck, darling,” he mocked, “I’m eager for my time in Mexico!”
“What? How could you… Those were my savings too, John! How dare you use them without a word?”
“I knew you’d throw a fit about the divorce, Nicky. That’s why I planned it this way!”
With that, John packed his bags and left the house, leaving divorce papers for Nicky. “If you don’t want to face the consequences, sign them quickly. Otherwise, life will be hellish for you from now on!” he said as he walked out.
Nicky cried as John departed. John wasn’t the perfect partner, but she’d recently found out about his flings with much younger women seeking only fleeting romance. He was determined to rid himself of her to facilitate his sexual escapades.
But Nicky had no intention of getting divorced. After their children moved out, she had only John left. So even after discovering his infidelity, she stayed quiet, hoping things might improve, but alas, they hadn’t. John ultimately expressed a desire for divorce. But she had a plan: she wouldn’t let him escape this time. Not this time, John! You won’t get away with this!
Three months later…
Nicky was in the living room, sipping raspberry tea and munching on chocolate cookies, glancing at the clock when the doorbell rang. Her jaw dropped upon seeing John at the door. “What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be in Mexico?”
“Oh, Nicky! I’m sorry, I’m so sorry for what I’ve done!” he pleaded, dropping to his knees. “Please forgive me. Leaving you was a mistake. I never should have done this.”
Nicky was astonished. “John, what happened? Okay, calm down. Let’s go inside and talk, shall we?”
“Oh, Nicky! Where to begin? I met this young woman, Maddison,” he started, once inside. “She was beautiful, and I thought she loved me. We spent two months together in Mexico… But she was a con artist! She took all the money and everything! We lived in her small apartment in Mexico, and she had me do everything for her, including cooking and cleaning. She had two kids, and I took care of them, thinking she loved me. But every night…” he paused, clearing his throat.
“We never slept together because the kids always came to the room, and she’d find excuses to leave with them. She said she’d marry me, but it was all lies… she just wanted my money!”
“Oh, dear!” gasped Nicky, shocked. “That’s terrible… terrible… You know what…” She began when the doorbell rang again.
“One moment, John. Let me see who’s at the door,” said Nicky heading to the entrance.
“Who is it, Nicky?… Wha– What are you doing here?” John was stunned when he saw Maddison on their porch. “Nicky! It’s her! She’s the one who robbed me!”
The two women exchanged glances and burst into laughter.
“Well, John! I know everything. Meet Mandy – or as you called her – Maddison. She’s the daughter of one of my friends. A single mom of two who helped me gather evidence against my cheating husband! I warned you, John, that you’d regret it! I found your hotel using Facebook and enlisted Maddison’s help. It was all a setup, darling, and I’m glad you fell for it!”
“What?” John erupted. “You did all this on purpose?! You’ll regret this, Nicky! You will!”
“No, John,” Nicky shouted. “You’ll be the one regretting this. Pack your bags and get out of my house! And yes, I am divorcing you, you jerk! And I’ll make sure you don’t get a single cent! So pack up and leave! GET OUT NOW, OF MY HOUSE!”
John gathered his things and left the house, muttering something that Nicky no longer cared about. She thanked Mandy for her help, and the two women enjoyed a warm cup of raspberry tea on that chilly morning, laughing at how masterfully their plan unfolded.
Several months later, John and Nicky were divorced, and when their kids learned what transpired, they sided with their mother and ridiculed their father for stooping so low.
What can we learn from this story? You can’t outrun karma. John cheated on Nicky, swearing to make her life hell, but karma caught up with him. Never underestimate housewives. John thought he could easily force Nicky into a divorce because he was the financial Provider, and hence, the dominant one in the marriage. But karma showed him otherwise.
