My Husband’s Ultimatum for a Sixth Child: A Heartfelt Stand

I never imagined I would find myself in such a predicament, but here I am, standing at a crossroads. I was forced into taking drastic measures when my husband, Danny, compelled me to make a decision over a request that feels more like an ultimatum.

Danny has always been a dedicated father and a successful businessman. He ensures our family’s well-being, spending long hours at the office, which gives me the freedom to be a stay-at-home mom raising our five wonderful daughters.

Lately, however, his desire for a son “to carry on the family name” has turned into demands. Those demands have now escalated into threats!

One evening after dinner, Danny said, “Lisa, we MUST have a sixth child,” his tone stern and almost cold.

I replied, feeling the tension rise, “Danny, we already have FIVE daughters. Do you want to keep having children until we get a son?”

“Aren’t children a blessing to you? Is it really that hard?” His words stung. We’ve had this conversation before, but this time it felt different. It seemed like an ultimatum. We continued arguing, neither of us willing to back down.

The discussion escalated to the point where he suggested he might consider DIVORCE if I refused to have a son! “Are you saying you’d leave me if I don’t give you a son?” I asked, my voice trembling.

“I didn’t say THAT,” he murmured, avoiding my gaze. But the implication was clear. He was willing to consider divorce if I didn’t follow his wishes. That’s where the conversation ended, each of us preparing to go to bed.

That night, I lay awake thinking about our conversation. How could he be so indifferent to the life we’ve built together? Our daughters are amazing, each unique and full of life. I couldn’t imagine our family any other way.

I had to show him what he was asking for, what it entailed for me and us. And you know what? Before closing my eyes to sleep, I decided on an ingenious way to SHOW HIM EXACTLY what it means to raise five kids ALONE!

The next day, I woke up extra early while everyone else was sleeping soundly. I packed my things and headed to my mom’s old house in the countryside. I turned off my phone notifications and ignored all of his calls and messages.

After fixing myself breakfast and a hot coffee, I settled in comfortably to watch my favorite drama unfold: “The Chaos of Leaving Your Husband at Home Alone with Five Kids.” I monitored everything in real time through the surveillance cameras I’d installed at home.

Danny was in for a RUDE AWAKENING! As soon as he woke up, he began getting ready for work. But he stopped when he heard the kids making noise. “Where’s your mom, and why aren’t you dressed and ready for breakfast?” he asked, bewildered.

My kids made me proud by ignoring him and continuing to jump on beds and play. My husband looked for me, calling my name, before realizing I wasn’t home. Then he started to call, and I watched the call notification pop up on my phone.

“What the heck, Lisa,” he said, frustrated, after abandoning his sixth call attempt. He couldn’t go to work because he couldn’t leave the girls alone. The first morning was HILARIOUS and a COMPLETE DISASTER!

He tried making breakfast, ended up burning the toast, and spilled orange juice EVERYWHERE! The kids were running around, refusing to get dressed. He was completely overwhelmed, and I loved every moment of it!

“Emma, stop running! Jessica, put your shoes on!” I heard him shout, his voice strained.

“Daddy, I don’t like this cereal!” Emily complained, pushing the bowl away.

“Then WHAT DO YOU WANT?” he asked, exasperated.

“I want pancakes!” she demanded. Danny sighed, rubbing his temples.

“Alright, I’ll make pancakes.”

Jessica, feeling left out, also demanded, “I want scrambled eggs and cake!”

Emma, not wanting to be excluded, asked, “Waffles and whipped cream, please!”

If his temples ached before, they were surely POUNDING now! Throughout the day, the chaos only increased! He tried helping them with online lessons, but they kept running off!

“Jessica, focus on your math assignment,” he pleaded.

“But I don’t understand, Daddy!” she cried. He sat beside her, staring at the screen.

“Okay, let’s figure this out together.” Meanwhile, a work call came through.

Judging by Danny’s conversation and his many apologies, he had forgotten to notify work that he wouldn’t be attending that day! By lunchtime, he had no clue what the kids liked to eat. So they ended up having a random snack picnic.

“Can we have peanut butter and jelly?” Emma asked.

“I’m not sure we have any,” he answered, searching the pantry.

“Then just jelly?” she suggested. I must admit, while it was sad to see him struggle, it was absolutely hilarious and worth it!

The house was a MESS, with toys everywhere, looking like it was about to collapse! “Why is there Play-Doh on the carpet?” he groaned.

“I don’t know, ask Emily,” Jessica responded. Hearing her name, Emily began explaining all the reasons it wasn’t her fault!

The following night, when I walked through the door, Danny was the first to run to me, more relieved than ever!

“I’m so sorry,” he said. “I won’t pressure you for a son anymore.” He hugged me so tightly I could barely breathe!

“I promise to spend more time with the family,” he swore, and I was deeply touched.

“If you promise to spend more time with us and help, we can discuss the POSSIBILITY of a sixth child,” I said.

He nodded eagerly. “I promise, I swear. Just never leave me alone with them that long again!” We both laughed, and since then, he’s kept his promise. He’s become more involved with the family, appreciating all the work we do in raising our children.

Our lives began to change for the better. Danny started leaving work early and even worked from home sometimes, determined to be more present.
